MrSmith Studio's Tone: A Revolution in Wireless Home Speakers

Concrete Body and Customizable Design Elevate Portable Audio Experience

MrSmith Studio's inspiration for the Tone stemmed from the desire to create the best sound experience in the portable speaker segment. The studio recognized the high sound transmission characteristics and stiffness of concrete, which are ideal for high-end speakers. However, the weight of concrete has traditionally been a barrier to portability. The Tone overcomes this challenge by using Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), which boasts high mechanical characteristics that allow for reduced thickness and a finer grain, resulting in a lighter, more portable speaker.

The Tone's unique properties include a body made of concrete, perfect for sound transmission, and built-in batteries for portability. The color of the concrete and the material of the front and back panels can be customized, offering clients a personalized product. An optional aluminum front grid, held in place by magnets, adds a touch of elegance to the design.

The Tone's technical specifications are impressive. It features 2.1 channels, 2x50w 4 inches Full-Range Drivers, 1x100w 5.25 inches Subwoofer, and a frequency response of 35Hz 20KHz. It boasts a continuous power output of 200W, a max SPL of 100dB, and a bass reflex port on the back. The speaker also includes acoustically isolated midrange chambers, Bluetooth 4.0, Class-D Amps, an active crossover, and a 5500mah battery. The dimensions are 490 x 206 x 260 mm, and it weighs 9Kg.

The design process for the Tone was a challenge, particularly fitting 200W of power output into a small portable speaker. However, after several prototypes and mockups, MrSmith Studio was able to achieve this feat. The project was entirely developed at the MrSmith Studio headquarters in Milan, starting in June 2019 and released in February 2020.

The Tone's innovative design and superior sound quality have not gone unnoticed. It was awarded Silver in the A' Audio and Sound Equipment Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
